Project Maserati Quattroporte “Mafia BOSS”- Phase 5

We are 70% through our project at this point and figured it would be a good time to take a look back at our project and see the true cost of ownership of this Maserati Quattroporte so far.  We bought our Maserati about 7 months ago now and have had some significant findings about the costly expense owning such a car can carry. We purchased this 2007 Maserati Quattroporte GT with only 13,000 miles on the odometer and a Maserati warranty expiring in 12/30/2013 which made it a no brainer for us when selecting the car.

The car had a clutch and bearing changed at about 12,000 miles, as well as its 4 year service including an oil change. So really, what could go wrong since this car had all records, a perfect history and caring owner. Well, this has been somewhat of a pleasant experience so far but with a few glitches in between…

Here is our mileage log and costs associated with each item.

14,500 Miles – Rattle from dashboard, rear cup holder loose, door trim loose – all fixed under warranty

16,000 Miles – Rear brakes squealing heavily despite 50% pad wear – Not covered under warranty. Replaced rear pads with Formula Dynamics brake pads for the Quattroporte GT – Labor was $145 by aftermarket shop.

17500 Miles – Power Steering Leaking – Replaced Power Steering Rack ($6500) – All covered under warranty

18200 Miles – Interior trim piece loose, alignment performed – Trim covered under warranty, alignment $130

19000 Miles Coolant Flush – Maintenance $265

19850 Miles – Trim piece loose, CD changer malfunction, 1 TPMS malfunction – all covered under warranty

20180 Miles – Oil Change, Brake fluid and Inspection – Maintenance $617.00

As you can see from this list, the cost of ownership of a Maserati Quattroporte is not cheap at all and shows that the car does need attention from its owner more than your average Mercedes or BMW. More importantly, it shows the importance of buying cars as such with a warranty rather than as is. You simply never know when things can or may go wrong.

A big thank you to Jeff @ Formula Dynamics 1-800-351-8757 for his team’s willingness to help when we ran into areas unknown to us, but also for providing quality maintenance and repair parts at affordable prices.
