How to Survive in Business

2015 marked the 20th year in business for The Abs Company. This is something we are very proud of as it speaks to the validity of what we do and to the power of good old entrepreneurship!  According to the SBA (Small Business Administration) half of all new businesses fail within 5 years and only 33% make it to year 10.  These statistics can be daunting to someone thinking of starting a business or to those just getting underway. But don’t worry, I have the secret to success and I’m going to share it with you!

I am a big fan of the UFC – The Ultimate Fighting Championship. I love the competition, the dedication of the athletes and even the success of the business itself. Saturday night the UFC had an event in Houston TX featuring the light heavyweight championship title fight. Daniel Cormier, the current champion, faced Alexander Gustavson. The fight was an absolute thriller – one of the best I have ever seen. It was a 5 round war with both fighters leaving it all in the cage. In the end DC defended his belt winning by split decision. In the post fight press conference they asked him how he won – what it took. Very humbly he stated, “I just kept punching!”

In other words he was saying – I never gave up! That’s it – thats the secret to success in business and in life. NEVER GIVE UP. Being an entrepreneur is a lot like being a prize fighter. Fortunately, you don’t physically get punched in the face, but metaphorically you certainly do.  No one is just going to hand you business, you are going to face a lot of rejection and there will be many days when you will think – maybe I should just go get a job!

I’m here to tell you that it’s possible – anything is possible if you are willing to put in the hard work, take your hits and in the words of the champ – Just Keep Punching!

The world of the entrepreneur is magical and it’s there for you if you want it!
