Consumer Spending Is Up In March!

consumer spending

Consumer confidence has now been up for three consecutive months and that is looking good, despite the lack of job growth, it seems that consumers are starting to realize the recession is nowhere near over and are choosing to start leaving their lives normally again. This is a big surprise.

As many believe this is a simple fluke and will start dipping again, I like to believe it is real and will continue to grow. Most economists will tell you that job growth is directly related to consumer spending and historically this has been found to be true BUT job growth alone is not the only factor that pushes the consumer spending index up. The people’s confidence in their own situations does too, and I think people have just about had it with all the down talk on the news and the negative effects that talk shows and gloomy economists seem to keep playing on. Its not doomsday, its just another recession, not the worst we had and not the smallest but it will go away and the less afraid we are of it, the quicker it will go away.

The only difference is that now you need to spend within your means and thats how it should have been to begin with.

Bentley Arnage Final Series

bentley arnage final series

Bentley has long been rumored to be considering the use of diesel engines. The torquey oil-burners would enable Crewe to continue offering the kind of freight-train muscle for which it has become known while living up to the mandate of offering improved fuel economy, and, with the latest developments in particulate filter technology, reduce carbon emissions, as well.

GM Going Bankrupt?

Fritz Henderson, the new CEO of GM speaks up. He has plans for GM and is doing his best to reinvent the company. He says changes will be made and he will not wait around for Obama to dictate what those changes are. He wants to make the right budget cuts, reorganize the company’s priority and and make people work harder to prevent further cuts down the road. The company was given a June 1st deadline to change its high debt balance sheet to a profitable company.

General Motors had originally planned to cut 47,000 or so jobs by the end of 2009 and has now announced that they might be doing so earlier than expected in order to cut debt and increase profits. It is a fact that General Motors houses over 244,000 employees and that bankruptcy would impact our economy drastically but GM must remain conscious that keeping its Union Workers on payroll will probably mean it will fall.

General Motors has to somehow find a way to negotiate with union workers and their respective unions a plan to help the company remain afloat without having to pay those awfully large wages simply due to people’s seniority. Henderson also made a note that GM must get rid of its $49 billion in bond debt and secured loans, this money also covers almost 400,000 GM employee’s health care that are now retired and collect retirement benefits.

Henderson finally concluded by saying that GM would most likely have to close 5 of its factories by the end of the year and might claim a small bankruptcy to¬† wipe its debt and try to start fresh. Obama’s administration did said it would help out General Motors with loans and warranty commitments but changes need to be made quickly to ensure GM survives on the long run.

Once again another large company that is willing to claim bankrupcy and dump its debt on tax payers simply due to its poor business model.

Should We Legalize Marijuana

Legalizing Marijuana could be the solutions to many problems, it could put a halt on the drug wars of the Mexican border and it can help boost our economy by simply taxing users that want to buy it. The President’s take on legalizing Marijuana was “I don’t think legalizing marijuana is going to be the solution in helping us boost our economy” but the reality remains:

Our economy is in terrible shape and is not showing signs of improvement that are consistent. Lets look at what the stats are about Marijuana. It has close to 6.1 million users in the United States alone per month. Legalizing Marijuana would simply mean that those 6.1 M would now pay a tax for using it. The drug itself is not as intoxicating as alcohol or as health damaging as cigarettes but yet remains a taboo subject and remains looked at as highly illegal.

Beyond the US is Mexico, a country that recently has not seen peace. The drug wars along the Mexico/ USA border in Texas has become a very large and violent issue, with new dead bodies found almost daily as a result of cartel fighting and corruption. Legalizing marijuana would also end this as many people would no longer need to acquire this illegal substance from across the border and cartels would no longer fight on distributing the legal drug. As much as I want to believe that cartels would stop fighting once marijuana has been legalized, I cannot imagine that they would do so. I simply believe they would find alternative drugs and ways to push them across the border or would simply change their strategy and location.

From a legal standpoint marijuana might actually help bring down the amount of users using it. It has been proven in the past that when something is openly accessible, it is less likely to strike the curiosity of those new children that are not using it. The way we fix this problem is not related to legalizing marijuana but rather focused on education, in classrooms and by parents, which seems to have disappeared for the past few years but needs to come back quickly.

So finally my thoughts on legalizing marijuana…

It is my belief that despite the fact that legalizing a drug is not the best idea, it does remain in this case a very strong option to consider. Allow me to state my reasons.

  • It would increase profits in all states via taxes
  • It is already accessible to those that are using it, we just don’t make money
  • It would lower the violence across the border
  • It would break the amount of corruption temporarily
  • It may keep some from being curious

An finally, my last point. It is only in this country that we raise our kids to not fear anything or anyone and to stand up for themselves which unfortunately makes them believe they are invincible or that they are only one phone call away from help but the reality remains that legalizing marijuana should happen if it only helped limit the contact our kids have with individuals in the US that attain drugs the illegal way, these characters are often considered dangerous, will do anything for money and are of a terrible influence on our children. This alone is reason for me to think that legalizing marijuana is acceptable and worth it and is not only providing funding for our economy but also helping us keep our children safe.

2010 Mercedes E63 AMG

2010 mercedes e63 amg

Details of the engine are not too detailed with Mercedes-Benz only willing to divulge the car’s power figure of 386kW (525hp). Murmurs of “underpowered” were heard on many a fan’s lip when this figure was released because it clearly falls short of the Audi RS6′s 426kW (579hp). At this level of power the E63 AMG should only be able to face up to the new Jaguar XFR, not the RS6.

But Mercedes has declared that the power wars are over and it will now concentrate on fuel-efficiency rather than extreme performance. We can’t help wonder if BMW and Audi will be compliant for their next weapons of choice in this segment. Spy pictures have also revealed the E63 AMG Estate and both versions are expected to be officially unveiled at the same time during the 2009 Frankfurt International Motor Show in September.

Ulysse Nardin Smart Phone

Ulysse Nardin Smart Phone

Ulysse Nardin has just taken the wraps of its entire Chairman handset, which they bill as a “hybrid smart phone” — and actually seem to mean it.

Ulysse Nardin surprisingly hasn’t skimped on specs here, there’s that fancy kinetic rotor system for passive charging of the phone, but no word on how much battery life that will actually get you.

Ulysse Nardin is currently showing off the phone in Rose Gold, Rose Gold & Blue, Rose Gold & Steel, Stealth Black and Steel & Blue trims, so there should be plenty of options to set you apart from your other billionaire friends. No word on price.
